Serum Levels of Creatine Phosphokinase.
Increasing interest in serum enzyme levels in various conditions has led to recognition of the value of the estimation of creatine phosphokinase activity in muscular disorders. Interpretation of the results obtained has been hampered by the lack of adequate information about the ;normal range'. Data for the normal levels of creatine phosphokinase in cord blood, children, and adults are presented.
متن کاملEvaluation of creatinine phosphokinase in screening patients for malignant hyperpyrexia.
Evidence is presented that serum creatinine phosphokinase (CPK) activity is of no direct value in screening patients for susceptibility to malignant hyperpyrexia and does not correlate with halothane-induced muscle contracture or the presence of myopathy. Widely differing CPK values were found at different times in the same people. In most "malignant hyperpyrexia" families the susceptible patie...
متن کاملSerum creatine phosphokinase activity in acute psychosis.
During the last 7 years, there have been a number of investigations of the incidence of various types of neuromuscular dysfunction in patients with schizophrenic and affective illnesses and their first-degree relatives in comparison with appropriate controls, including nonpsychotic psychiatric patients. Before reviewing these studies, it may be of value to discuss why neuromuscular dysfunction ...
متن کاملSerum creatine phosphokinase in normal newborns.
Serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) activity in 70 normal newborns was found to be significantly higher than the normal values found in adults or older children, and in some cases reached a level up to 10 times normal. It declined to near normal activity during the first 4 days and to normal level of activity by age 6-10 weeks. No clear correlation between birth trauma and increase in serum CPK ...
متن کاملEffect of prednisolone on serum creatine phosphokinase.
Determination of serum creatine phos~hokinase (CPK; EC 2.7.3.2.) is important ill laboratory diagnosis of myocardial infarction (M') and skeletal muscle disorders (7). Two recent reports suggest that administration of corticosteroids decreases serum CPK activity (1.5). If patients with MI and myopathies are given. corticosteroids as some of them are the corticostEroids may ~revent the expected ...
